Fishing report
Tofino Fish Guides looks forward to providing a fantastic fishing experience for you and your crew during the 2012 fishing season. Join Lochie MacKenzie aboard our 25’ Pursuit offshore vessel the ‘Rye not’ and target Chinook and Coho Salmon or Pacific Halibut off the west coast of Vancouver Island.Early season fishing has been quite good as of late. During the last couple of weeks our charter guests have been hooking up with Chinook Salmon and halibut offshore in the Portland Point tack with good regularity. The inshore waters that are largely protected from swell have also been producing nice fish. The salmon are feeding on a variety of bait at the moment including Needlefish, Herring and Krill. Its hard to beat the taste of an early season Krill feed Chinook salmon after a long winter of eating frozen fish! Halibut fishing has been good as of late with a couple in the mid forties caught in the past week.
Charter and accommodation rates are hard to beat during the early season and crabbing is an excellent option this time of year.
We look forward to another exceptional season of Salmon and Halibut fishing off of the west coast of Vancouver Island. The Department of Fisheries and Oceans has forecast strong salmon returns again this season. A special emphasis has been placed on early returns of Chinook salmon during April to June that are headed to rivers from California to Washington. Recent hatchery enhancement initiatives in these areas continue to produce strong returns that benefit anglers visiting the Tofino area. July and August will bring salmon that are returning to the Mighty Fraser River in BC as well as salmon traveling to rivers along Vancouver Island.
Mid summer dates are filling up quickly, now is a great time to book in order to secure peak season dates.
